RIVER REVIVAL is designed to encourage appreciation of the undulating force upon which the community of North Adams was built and awaken awareness of a river lost. In doing so, the event will draw the community to a gathering place that celebrates the city's heritage and soaks in the history that continues to flow through it.

The initial design concept began with a simple light art installation and grew to a more complex representation of the Hoosac River's history, as well as its future. The team then focused on three elements to tell the river's story through the use of light and materials. Fabric beams span the river and form the bridge connecting the two sides of North Adams. Rocks, in the form of wire sculptures, fill the concrete channel and provide an interactive surface for the light, as well as a moving spatial element to cast multicolored shadows onto the concrete walls. Finally, a glowing fiber optic cable represents the flow and surge of the river, an ever-present force in the community of North Adams.
